Special Pass SP

A Special Pass (SP) is a temporary pass that is usually valid for 30 days maximum. It is issued by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

Malaysia’s Immigration Department typically grants a Special Pass (SP) to foreign nationals and expatriates who have yet to renew their current employment or student visa and have yet to depart from Malaysia. This document is only issued to applicants with reasonings that are deemed acceptable.

As of 2016, applicants can only apply for a Malaysian Special Pass (SP) if they are unable to leave the country by the expiry date of their current visa document due to unforeseeable circumstances. With that, the Special Pass (SP) is issued with the notion of the applicant being “Making Arrangements to Leave the Country”.

Applicants should apply for this pass in a timely manner (at least 7 days before the current visa expiry date). With that, L&H Group provides consultation and assistance to foreign nationals considering applying for a Malaysian Special Pass (SP).

It should be noted that if an expatriate stays in Malaysia past their visa expiry date without the appropriate permission or documents, it is considered a punishable offence. The applicant will be subject to detention as well as a fine issued by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
