Malaysia My Second Home Programme
Malaysia, known for its affordable high quality standard of living and thriving economy, is one of the Southeast Asia’s most vibrant economies due to its continued industrial growth and political stability over the past few decades. The country also offers perfect combinations on the elements that foreigners look for including the tropical climate, continental foods, islands and beaches, historical places and many more. With so much to enjoy and explore in Malaysia, the Government of Malaysia has launched the Malaysia My Second Home Programme in 2002 to allow foreigners who meet the criteria to stay in Malaysia for a long period of time. Those who fulfill the criteria of the Programme will be offered a renewable 5 years multiple entry social visit pass.
The Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia (“MOHA”) relaunched the Malaysia My Second Home Programme (‘MM2H Programme’) on 11 August 2021 with the following:
The Criteria to start the MM2H application
- Age Requirement (Age of 35 and above only)
- 35 years of age up to 49 years of age; or
- 50 years of age and above.
Introducing the category for those 35 years of age up to 49 years of age in order to select participants of quality and those who are more stable in terms of income and with an established career.
- Minimum liquid assets of RM1.5 million
An applicant for the MM2H Programme must prove that he has liquid assets of RM1.5 million
- Minimum offshore income of RM40,000
A participant in the MM2H Programme must have a minimum offshore income of RM40,000 per month.
- Certificate of Good Conduct
A participant in the MM2H Programme and his dependants are each required to provide a Letter of Good Conduct. This condition has been imposed to enable increased monitoring by enforcement agencies as an added security measure.
Criteria after obtain Pre- approval
Applicants must enter Malaysia within 6 months of obtaining pre-approval and complete the following requirements:
1. Minimum fixed deposit of RM1.0 million
A MM2H Programme participant must have a minimum fixed deposit of RM1.0 million. The participant is permitted to withdraw up to 50% of the principal amount for the purposes of purchasing property, healthcare and children’s education.
- Medical Check-up
It is advisable for the applicant to do a medical check-up with hospital or clinic in Malaysia after their application has been approved. A standard medical check-up that complements with the requirements as per the medical report form (RBII) is sufficient.
- Medical Insurance Requirement
Applicant & dependents are required to obtain the medical insurance that is applicable in Malaysia from any insurance company. However, exemptions may be given to those who have difficulty in obtaining the medical insurance due to their age or medical condition.
Others requirements
Minimum period of stay
A participant in the MM2H Programme must be present or reside in Malaysia for a cumulative period of 90 days in each year.
Add-On Dependent
The Add-On Dependent application is the addition of dependents who are not listed as dependents of the principal during the first MM2H application. The dependents refer to spouse, unmarried children below the age of 21 years old, parent(s) of principal.
Withdrawal
MM2H participants are allowed to withdraw partial of the required Fixed Deposit from the second year onwards for approved expenses related to house purchase, car purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. The allowed amount is RM500,000. However, they must maintain the remaining of Fixed Deposit (RM500,000) until they terminate from MM2H Programme.
