The Spouse visa may be issued to a foreigner for a temporary stay in Malaysia for a period of not less than six months. Extensions of the period of stay can be given based on the eligibility and fulfilment of certain conditions.
Foreign husbands/wives to Malaysians can be given the Spouse Visa for a period of 5 years on condition that they comply with all the requirements.
They are also allowed to engage in any form of paid employment or in any business or professional occupation without converting the Social Visit Pass to the Employment Pass or Visitor’s Pass (Temporary employment).

CHECKLIST FOR RESIDENCE PASS (CATEGORY 5)
To apply under Residence Pass (Category 5), Applicant (Ex-Malaysian) is obligated to have a SPONSOR in Malaysia.
The sponsor can be any Malaysian who is age 21 and above with salary above RM 2,000.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
- IMM 16A FORM: The Applicant will be required to fill up the forms alongside with the chosen Sponsor. Please fill up the full details as instructed.
- PASSPORT-SIZED PHOTO: i) The Applicant must submit at least 3 Passport-sized photos. ii) The Sponsor must submit at least 2 Passport-sized photos.
- COPY OF FOREIGN PASSPORT (Since Entering Malaysia): Copy of the passport used to enter Malaysia since the renunciation of Malaysian Citizenship.
- COPY OF LATEST FOREIGN PASSPORT: Copy of the latest passport with more than 5 years balance from the issuance date.
- COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE.
- COPY OF FORM K (Renunciation of Nationality): Approved copy of Form K for the renunciation of Malaysian nationality.
- COPY OF SPONSOR’S IC: Two copies of the sponsor’s IC (front and back).
- COPY OF UTILITY BILL: Copy of any necessary utility bill (e.g., water, electricity, telephone) based on the tenancy/S&P agreement address.
- COPY OF TENANCY OR S&P AGREEMENT: Tenancy or Sales & Purchase agreement for the applicant’s chosen stay location in Malaysia.
- COPY OF EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT: i) For the Applicant (Singapore’s company), must be verified by the Singapore Embassy. ii) For the Sponsor (Malaysian company).
- LATEST THREE MONTHS SALARY SLIP: i) For the Applicant (Singapore’s company), must be verified by the Singapore Embassy. ii) For the Sponsor (Malaysian company).
- LATEST THREE MONTHS BANK STATEMENT: i) For the Applicant, must be verified by the Singapore Embassy. ii) For the Sponsor.
ADDITIONAL INFO
– Once the documents have been completed, a meeting with the Immigration Officer will be scheduled.
The Applicant and Sponsor are REQUIRED to attend the meeting.
– Applicant and Sponsor must bring Original Documents alongside the copies mentioned above.
– The Officer may request additional necessary documents as needed.
